- Listen for creaks over bumps, and check the front end for play. Worn drop-links are a cheap fix.
- Check the brakes for wear, and ask when the rear drums were last checked. Seized brakes are a known fault.
- Check the sills, wheel arches, tailgate and exhaust for rust. CarWiki says cars built in 2004 and 2005 are the worst.
- Lift the mats and check the carpets, footwells, boot and door bottoms for damp. Check that the pollen filter seals are fitted.
