At a glance
- Reliability: 3/5. Many recalls, most with a short fix. No other fault is confirmed by two independent sources in the sources read.
- DIY: 2/5. Most checks need no tools. Diesel and gearbox work needs a scanner or a workshop.
- Prefer: a V-Class with proof that recall work was done and a documented service history.
- Avoid: a van with open recall campaigns or no proof of recall work.

Before you buy
- Front exterior door handles: pull each front outer handle and check that the door opens and closes normally. Bad result: a handle that does not open the door, or a door that opens on its own.
- Passenger airbag OFF lamp: switch the ignition on and check that the passenger airbag OFF lamp lights and goes out. Bad result: no lamp at all.
- Marco Polo roof bed: ask the seller for proof that the roof-bed recall check was done, and look for rust on the roof frame or bed fasteners. Bad result: rust, or no proof of the check.
- Recall campaigns: ask a Mercedes dealer to check open campaigns for the van's VIN, and ask for proof of the work on the recalls below. Bad result: an open campaign, or no proof that the work was done.
