Before you buy this car
From the generation guide
- Electric power steering: With the engine running, heavy steering or a steering warning light is a bad result. Use a scanner. Diagnosis 120-220 EUR; replacement and coding 480-780 EUR (Germany, year not stated).
- Ignition coil: Ask whether the ignition module has been replaced; it often fails by 60,000-80,000 km. About 10,000 RUB for a new module (Russia, year not stated).
- Easytronic: Drive it. Slipping, hesitant starts, rough shifts, or the car stuck in neutral with a warning are bad results. Ask for proof of clutch adaptation after clutch or actuator work.
- Petrol timing chain: Listen for a rattle and ask for a chain replacement record. Chains last 90,000-120,000 km. Replacement about 10,000 RUB in parts plus labour (Russia, 2020).
- Steering shaft recall: Read the production code on the lower universal joint. Codes 20E4 or 20K3 mean the shaft must be replaced. Check takes about 10 minutes; replacement about 30 minutes.
