At a glance
- Years: 2017 to today. Sold from late 2017 as the successor to the Yeti.
- Reliability: 3/5. Inspection results beat the average in every age group. The tailgate and suspension wear are the main risks.
- DIY: 2/5. Oil changes need the right oil and tools. Gearbox faults and the tailgate motor need a workshop and a scanner.
- Biggest risk: the dry 7-speed DSG (DQ200) on 1.0 TSI, 1.5 TSI front-drive and 1.6 TDI. See the gearbox guide.
- Prefer: a car with a service book and records of DSG oil changes. Avoid: open recall campaigns and a tailgate that sticks.

In detail
Parking brake recall, 1.0 TSI manual
A software fault in the engine control unit can release the electric parking brake. The car can then roll away. The campaign covers manual 1.0 TSI cars built from July 2017 to August 2018. Cars are called into workshops. The remedy and the campaign code are not stated. Check the VIN with a dealer. Cost: not stated.

Driver airbag recall (2018)
The driver's airbag module may not work correctly in a crash, which raises the risk of injury. Campaign 69Y9 covers Karoq models made from January to August 2018. CarWiki describes a fault in the gas generator (the part that fills the airbag), and a housing that can break. The remedy is not specified. A model match does not confirm a car, so check the VIN with an authorised Skoda dealer. Cost: not stated.

Electric tailgate lock and motor
The tailgate can fail to open from outside and inside. In one case the lock moved but did not release. Reported faults include the lock motor, the drive wiring and the spring cable. On cars under 100,000 km, the lock and the emergency-call unit have been replaced under warranty. The sources do not name one root cause.

Front suspension wear
TÜV inspectors note axle springs, suspension and shock absorbers on cars up to five years old. Axle mounts, springs and dampers show up a little more often than average at the second inspection, at 4 to 5 years. Front anti-roll links, the short rods that connect the stabiliser bar, can fail every 15,000 to 30,000 km on rough roads. In one garage case on a 2017 car, reported by IMI MotorPro, a creak over speed bumps came from dry contact surfaces on the front lower-arm bush. The fix was to grease those surfaces and check the alignment. Cost: no confirmed price.

Infotainment freezes
The media system can freeze, and the phone link (Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay) can fail. The fix is a software update. First, switch the ignition off and on. If that does not help, disconnect the battery negative terminal for a couple of minutes. Cost: no confirmed price.
