Audi DL382 7-speed S tronic (0CK): problems, costs and what to check

A smooth gearbox when serviced, but mechatronic and clutch bills are large, so buy only with a scan and oil records.

Before you buy

Mechatronic scan (needs a scanner). Read the gearbox fault memory for P0718, P0811, P0607, P179B and P17D1. Bad result: stored faults or a recent limp mode.
Cold clutch test. Pull away uphill and reverse up a ramp, twice. Judder means clutch work.
Pump motor history (needs a scanner). Check for pump and circuit board faults. A failed motor can stop the car.
Speed sensor campaign. Ask a dealer for campaigns 34 22 54 and 34 23 62. Scan for P0718 and P2768.
Gear position sensor (needs a scanner). On cars up to 2018, check the key comes out in P and the display lights.
Oil leaks. Check the plastic pan, mechatronic and housing joint.
Oil records. Look for 60,000 km oil changes with G 055 529 A2. Stamps prove nothing.

In detail

Mechatronic failure

Symptoms. The gear indicator flashes, "Gearbox Malfunction" appears and the car drops into emergency mode. Engagement can be harsh or slipping, sometimes with no drive. Codes P0718, P0811, P0607, P179B and P17D1.

Cause. The mechatronic is the control unit and hydraulic block in one. Speed sensors, the valve body and wiring fail. City use and pre-2018 cars are worst.

Which cars. All DL382 cars. Faults start at 70,000 to 90,000 km; about 150,000 km on average in Moscow.

Fix. Repair is enough in about 70 percent of cases: new sensors, solenoids and valve body, then basic settings. Overhaul kit 287.35 EUR.

Cost. 2,999 EUR new (Netherlands, year not stated). 800 to 2,000 EUR (Germany, year not stated). From 30,000 RUB (Russia, 2026); a warranty invoice was 140,000 RUB (2022).

Clutch wear and judder

Symptoms. Judder when pulling away, worst cold and on inclines. A bump before standstill; harsh 3-2 and 2-1 downshifts with a metallic sound. Slip and a burnt smell mean worn friction packs.

Cause. The K1 and K2 packs wear. City and trailer use speed this up. Stored adaptation can feel the same.

Which cars. All DL382 cars; 50,000 to 180,000 km, about 150,000 km on average in Moscow.

Fix. New clutch pack 0CK141030N, basic settings and kiss-point adaptation.

Cost. From 1,999 EUR (Netherlands, year not stated). From 45,000 RUB (Russia, 2026); a warranty invoice was 120,000 RUB (2022).

Speed sensor fault

Symptoms. "Transmission Malfunction", no drive, no reverse, shifts stop. P071800 and P276800 mean speed sensor A or B; P081100 means clutch slip.

Cause. The sensor is inside the control unit; a lost signal stops clutch control.

Which cars. Campaign 34 22 54 covers A4, A5, A7 and Q5 from 2018 to 2021, A6 from 2019 to 2021. Campaign 34 23 62 covers A4 and Q5 from 2020 to 2022, built 15 June 2020 to 31 May 2022.

Fix. Replace control unit J217. The 2022 document also fits a gear actuator module for a passive P071800; an active fault needs Audi support. The 2023 document says control unit only, no software update.

Cost. No confirmed price; a used control unit is 70,000 to 140,000 RUB (Russia, year not stated).

Electric pump motor

Symptoms. No movement and an emergency message; the fault memory names pump B or the board.

Cause. The motor drives the gear pump. If it runs before the mechatronic is filled with oil, it overheats. A failed motor can destroy the gearbox.

Which cars. All DL382 cars; 50,000 to 250,000 km, rarely past 150,000 km.

Fix. New pump motor, parts 0CK300041 and 0CK325583H.

Cost. 120 EUR including VAT (year not stated); fitting not stated.

Gear position sensor

Symptoms. Dark gear display, no start, key stuck in P, no reverse.

Cause. The engaged-gear sensor fails.

Which cars. Cars built up to 2018.

Fix. Replace it from below; the gearbox stays in. Some need software or a new selector unit.

Cost. From 1,399 EUR net (Germany, year not stated); the part is about 100 EUR, the rest is oil, filters and labour.

Oil leaks

Symptoms. Oil at the plastic pan, the mechatronic or the housing joint.

Cause. The 0CK plastic pan leaks repeatedly; rear and mechatronic seals also fail. A housing gasket leak needs a full strip.

Which cars. All DL382 cars; no mileage stated.

Fix. New pan or reseal; check the level.

Cost. 11,000 RUB for the pan (Russia, year not stated); other leaks no confirmed price.

Fluid. Use G 055 529 A2. Fill is 3.5 L, with 3.2 L changed. The gear side has its own oil.
