At a glance
- What it is: Aisin's transverse 8-speed torque-converter automatic (a fluid coupling, not a dual-clutch), sold by Stellantis as the EAT8 (AWF8F35) from 2016.
- Main faults: harsh or delayed shifts from old fluid and calibration, then valve body and solenoid wear, torque converter judder, and overheating that burns the clutches.
- Reliability: 3/5, because ADAC rated the 3008 gearbox 2.0 and most faults follow skipped oil changes, but repairs are expensive.
- DIY: 2/5, because the fluid level is set by temperature and every repair needs a scanner and a learn drive.
- Buy: a car with proof of an oil service every 60,000 to 80,000 km and no stored codes. Avoid: one that shudders, jerks into gear, or has shown a gearbox warning.
Known issues

| Harsh or delayed shifts | All EAT8 cars | 40,000 to 60,000 km | 300 to 600 EUR fluid service (Germany, 2026); 100 to 200 GBP software (UK, year not stated) |
| Gearbox oil service | All EAT8 cars | 60,000 to 80,000 km (service due) | 300 to 600 EUR (Germany, 2026); from 10,000 RUB (Russia, year not stated) |
Before you buy
- Check the overheating history (needs a scanner). Read stored over-temperature events and the oil temperature after a long drive. Repeated limp mode or a burnt oil smell means a rebuild risk.
- Test the torque converter. At a steady light throttle, feel for a shudder or stutter in one speed window. That points to the lock-up clutch inside the converter.
- Read the valve body codes (needs a scanner). Check solenoid codes and hot pressure. Stored solenoid or pressure codes point to valve body wear.
- Road test in slow city traffic. Spend at least 15 minutes in town and provoke a 2-3 upshift. A hard shunt, a flare or a delayed take-up points to worn parts or old fluid. Scan for codes afterwards.
- Ask for the oil history. No fluid change by 100,000 km is the common version of the shift complaint. Invoices for a flush and filter count.

In detail
Overheating and burnt clutches
Symptoms. Repeated limp mode after towing or a long climb, a burnt oil smell, noise under load, then slipping.
Cause. The small heat exchanger (oil cooler) clogs. The oil overheats, the Teflon rings fail, pressure drops, and the friction packs burn. Towing, heavy loads and city traffic raise the temperature.
Which cars. All EAT8 cars, worst when towing or heavily loaded.
Fix. A rebuild or a replacement unit. Flush the cooler and lines, or debris will damage the new gearbox.
Cost. UK: full rebuild 1,500 to 3,000 GBP (year not stated); reconditioning 2,200 to 4,500+ GBP (year not stated). No confirmed German or Russian price.

Torque converter lock-up clutch wear
Symptoms. A shudder or stutter at a steady speed, often in one speed window, or judder when the converter locks.
Cause. The lock-up clutch inside the torque converter wears first. Its debris contaminates the oil, then damages the valve body and oil pump.
Which cars. All EAT8 cars. One workshop plans converter work every 100,000 to 150,000 km.
Fix. Refurbish or replace the converter, change the fluid, and flush the cooler and lines. Do not fit a used converter with unknown history.
Cost. UK: 600 to 1,400 GBP for a converter (year not stated). No confirmed German or Russian price.

Valve body and solenoid faults
Symptoms. Rough shifts, a delay before a gear engages, repeated limp mode, a gearbox warning, or the box locked in 3rd. A code may name a solenoid, an electric oil valve.
Cause. The hydraulic block (valve body) and its solenoids wear. Debris in the fluid blocks them. In one 2019 3008 at 67,000 km, hot pressure was 0.6 bar below specification because the pressure regulator valve was worn.
Which cars. All EAT8 cars. Pressure-control solenoids degrade after 100,000 to 120,000 km.
Fix. Clean or replace the solenoids, repair the valve body, and reset the adaptation (the gearbox's learned shift settings). A software update alone may not fix a worn valve; one dealer quoted 8,000 RUB for software only.
Cost. UK: 500 to 1,200 GBP for a valve body (year not stated), or 900 to 1,900+ GBP elsewhere. Germany: 800 to 1,500 EUR valve body, 1,500 to 2,500 EUR mechatronic (2026). Russia: from 40,000 RUB (year not stated).

Harsh or delayed shifts
Symptoms. Hesitation when pulling away, a jerk on the 1-2 shift when cold, harsh 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts when hot, a thump selecting Drive, and a reluctance to kick down.
Cause. Old fluid and calibration. The gearbox adapts to worn fluid; dirty fluid or old software makes the shifts land hard.
Which cars. All EAT8 cars. Complaints often start at 40,000 to 60,000 km.
Fix. A fluid service with a flush and an adaptation reset; a dealer software update first. If the fluid is burnt or metal is on the pan magnet, move to the valve body or a rebuild.
Cost. Germany: 300 to 600 EUR for an ATF change (2026). UK: software update 100 to 200 GBP (year not stated). Russia: oil, filter and adaptation from 10,000 RUB (year not stated). South Africa: flush and filter 3,500 to 6,500 ZAR (2026).

Gearbox oil service
Symptoms. Old fluid shows as harsh cold shifts, judder at lock-up, or a delayed engagement after start.
Cause. Peugeot sells the EAT8 as sealed for life, with no service book entry. Workshops disagree and recommend a change. The filter is part of the oil pan on many versions, so a drain leaves 40 to 60% of the old oil.
Which cars. All EAT8 cars.
Fix. A flush exchanges up to 95% of the fluid. Use the oil approved for the VIN. Then reset the adaptation and drive a learn cycle.
Cost. Germany: 300 to 600 EUR (2026). Russia: from 10,000 RUB (year not stated). South Africa: 3,500 to 6,500 ZAR (2026).

Recalls
No EAT8 recall or service campaign is stated by the sources. Check open campaigns by VIN with a dealer before buying.
Maintenance
- Gear oil and filter. Change every 60,000 to 80,000 km, or 40,000 to 60,000 km in city traffic and towing. The filter is part of the pan on many versions, so a flush is the only way to exchange most oil.
- After a service. Reset the adaptation and drive a learn cycle, or the shifts can stay harsh.
- Oil level. The level is set by an overflow screw within a temperature window. A cold fill is a mis-fill.
